Sleepwrist vs Welltory
Welltory review and comparison: what the HRV stress and energy app does, whether Welltory is free or worth it, and how it differs from Sleepwrist for sleep.
Welltory is a well-rated health app built around HRV (heart rate variability, the tiny changes in time between your heartbeats) to track stress, energy and recovery, with sleep as one part of a much bigger picture. Sleepwrist is a sleep-only app for iPhone and Apple Watch, built for women over 40 who wake up at night and want to know why, in plain words. If stress, fatigue or a chronic condition is your main concern, Welltory is the broader tool; if your nights are the problem, Sleepwrist goes deeper on them.
We make Sleepwrist, so we have kept this comparison to facts we could check. Everything about Welltory below comes from its App Store listing, website and help center, as of October 2026.

Welltory review: what the app actually does
Welltory, made by Welltory inc and on the App Store since 2016, describes itself as a chronic stress and energy tracker. Its listing says it is trusted by over 20 million people. Here is what you get, based on its listing and help center:
- Stress and energy. It turns your Apple Watch or another wearable into a stress monitor and tracks a daily "battery" so you can pace your day and avoid crashes.
- HRV measurements. You can measure HRV with your phone camera or let a wearable do it.
- Sleep Analysis. For iPhone users with an Apple Watch or Oura ring, Welltory gives a Sleep Score built from four parts: sleep balance, sleep schedule, sleep stability and a "Heart Rate Wave", which compares your night's heart rate curve with your own best recovery nights. When the score is low, it suggests likely reasons, such as a late bedtime or frequent wake-ups.
- Journal and symptoms. Log flare-ups, crashes, migraines and life events, and link them to your HRV and sleep trends.
- Heart health. Track resting heart rate, log blood pressure readings by hand or from a connected monitor, and create PDF reports to share with your doctor.
- Audio programs to help you fall asleep.
Welltory is careful to say it does not measure blood pressure through the phone camera or Apple Watch, and that it is not a substitute for medical advice.
Is Welltory free?
Welltory is free to download and use, with a paid upgrade called Welltory Premium. According to its help center, as of October 2026:
- New users get a 3-day free trial of Premium after their first measurement.
- After the trial, the free version keeps basic tracking, but sleep and blood pressure reports are simplified, without advanced insights or recommendations.
- On the free version, your history is limited to the past 30 days.
On the US App Store, Welltory lists several in-app purchases, including yearly Premium plans and a lifetime option. Prices vary by plan and by country, so check the listing or the app's paywall for the current price.
Is Welltory worth it?
It depends on what you need. Welltory is worth a serious look if you:
- live with stress, burnout, POTS, long COVID or ME/CFS (conditions its listing names) and want to pace your energy,
- want one hub for many devices and apps,
- like seeing how your nervous system responds to your days.
It may be more than you need if your main problem is waking up at night. Sleep is one section of a large app, and Welltory's help center says its Heart Rate Wave needs at least 30 nights of Apple Watch sleep data to work.
Where Welltory is strong
- Breadth. Stress, energy, sleep, symptoms, blood pressure logs and workouts in one place, with more than 1,000 connected devices and apps.
- A thoughtful sleep model. The Heart Rate Wave compares each night with your own best nights, which is a smart, personal approach.
- A free tier you can keep using after the trial.
- Doctor-friendly reports for blood pressure.
- Experience and scale. On the App Store since 2016, rated 4.7 by about 134K people, and updated in October 2026.
- Android support, if you or your family use both platforms.
Where Sleepwrist is different
Sleepwrist does one thing: helps you understand your nights. It reads the sleep your Apple Watch already records, with nothing else to wear and no account to create.

- The arc of your night. Each morning, a horseshoe runs from bedtime (a moon) to wake-up (a sun), colored by phase, with every wake-up marked in orange. Slide a finger along it to see what happened at any minute.
- Plain words, one thing to try. Wristy, a friendly Apple Watch mascot, explains your night and suggests ONE simple thing for tonight. The advice rotates, so it doesn't repeat every morning.
- What is waking you. Sleepwrist finds the hour you wake up most and lines wake-ups up with your wrist temperature (Apple Watch Series 8 or later, and Ultra) or, on other models, with heart rate and sleep stages. For example, it can show that you wake twice as often on your warmer nights. Our guide on why you wake up at 3 AM explains the common causes.
- Your body, in words. Wrist temperature and sleeping heart rate are compared with your own last 30 nights: "Just right", "A bit warm", "Calm", "A bit high".
- How you feel counts. A daily mood check-in, plus evening tags (alcohol, late caffeine, screen time, medication).
- Ask Wristy. A private chat about your own nights, powered by Apple Intelligence and answered on your iPhone (iPhone 15 Pro or newer).
- On your wrist. Your score and Wristy's one-liner on the watch, mood in one tap, complications, and a wind-down reminder 45 minutes before your usual bedtime that also warns you if your battery won't last the night.
- Privacy. Health data is analyzed on your iPhone and is never sold or shared.
Sleepwrist is a wellness app, not a medical device. It does not track stress or HRV scores, and it does not diagnose sleep apnea or insomnia.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose Welltory if stress, low energy or a chronic condition is what you want to manage, and sleep is one piece of that.
- Choose Sleepwrist if your nights are the problem: you wake at 3 AM, have night sweats or feel tired after "enough" hours, and you want answers without jargon.
- Use both if you like: they read from Apple Health, so one does not block the other.
